Enough info available to convict would-be killer of Osmayev, Okuyeva

Police investigators have enough evidence to convict the would-be assassin of Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) volunteers Adam Osmayev and his wife Amina Okuyeva. Motives behind the murder attempt, including ties with Russia, are being investigated.

"There are two major elements to the crime. The first – shots were fired and wounded Osmayev, as well as the shooter. There is no doubt the killer fired shots and was wounded when Okuyeva returned fire …" Head of the Kyiv branch of the National Police of Ukraine Andriy Kryschenko said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Kyiv's police chief said the suspect was talking with investigators.

"[The assassin] said he wanted to give them a present," Kryschenko says, adding enough evidence of the attempted murder has been collected to qualify the crime committed and to bring the suspect to justice.

"The second fact – how the shooter came to Kyiv, got to know Osmayev and Okuyeva, the motive behind the attempted murder, including the weapons used …" Kryschenko said, adding that investigators are looking into how the killer received legal status in Kyiv and received a Ukrainian passport.

The police chief said the main motive behind the assassination attempt is the patriotic activity of Osmayev and Okuyeva as ATO participants.

"We are convinced the murder attempt is linked to their activities, not only during the last several years, but earlier," Kryschenko said.
