Some UAH 2 billion from various sources of financing was spent to restore infrastructure in Donetsk region in 2016, Head of Donetsk Military and Civil Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky has said.

"Last year this [restoration of infrastructure] cost UAH 2 billion. The Japanese government and UNDP [the United Nations Development Program] invested in it. First of all water supply facilities were restored," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday via Skype.

He said that the funds from the regional development fund were sent to restore bridges in Donetsk region, the television relay tower on Karachun Mountain near Sloviansk and various infrastructure projects.

The funds of the regional budget were sent to education and medicine, including for restoration of infrastructure after shelling.

Commenting on the prospects of the development of the region, he said that with systemic financing one can build absolutely new infrastructure in Donetsk region in 10 years.

"I think that in 10 years one can built, not restore, new infrastructure in Donetsk region with systemic injections," he said.

Zhebrivsky said that the key problem of Donetsk region is absence of investment.
