Poroshenko administration: Ukraine supports Normandy leaders' meeting to agree roadmap for Minsk implementation

Ukraine supports the idea of organizing a 'Normandy format' meeting at the highest level in order to agree upon a roadmap for implementing the Minsk agreements, the Ukrainian president's press service said.

"Ukraine supports the initiative to hold a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia, at which this document could be adopted. But it is unacceptable to hold this meeting in order to address only so-called political components of the Minsk [accords]," the press service said in a comment on prospects for holding the Normandy Four meeting.

The document also notes that any political decision can be taken only after tangible progress on security issues.

In this regard, the work of the Normandy Four has recently been revitalized at various levels, including the expert one, for substantial preparations for the summit. The goal is to agree on a draft roadmap for the implementation of the Minsk [accords], which should include the sequence of security and political provisions with clear guarantees of their fulfillment.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault announced on Monday that the Normandy Four leaders - the presidents of France, Germany, Ukraine and Russia - may meet on October 19. Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Paris is scheduled for the same date.

Russia's Ambassador to France Alexander Orlov said on Tuesday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel had invited the Normandy Four leaders to a dinner in Berlin on October 19.
