European Commissioner Hahn hopes Ukraine will receive visa-free travel with EU in October
Ukraine may get visa-free regime with the countries of the European Union in October 2016, European Commissioner on Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Johannes Hahn has said.
"In October, this [the decision of the EU Council on granting a visa-free regime for Ukraine] should be hopefully approved. It is too early to congratulate, but I think everybody agrees that Ukraine has done its job, has fulfilled all the benchmarks... more than 140 items. This is remarkable!" Hahn said during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman in Brussels on Tuesday.
"The Slovak presidency is also committed to do its job [to ensure visa liberalization for Ukraine]," he said.
Hahn stressed that the EU would continue political, technical and financial support of Ukraine. Since 2014, the EU has already allocated EUR 7 billion in grants, loans and assistance to maintain stability in Ukraine and in the region in general.
