Anti-Corruption Bureau officers raid UIA office

Officers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) on Tuesday blocked the office of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA, Kyiv), the press service of the airline has reported.

"They said that the goal of their 'visit' is to seize UIA's accounting documents for 2014-2016. On June 13 in the evening UIA received a written request from the NABU to present these documents," the airline said.

UIA said that the requested documents are available in open sources and in public agencies: the State Aviation Service, the State Statistics Service, National Commission for Securities and the Stock Market and courts.

"UIA at once started preparing the documents and it will take several days to collect them. In the morning on June 14 the UIA's office was blocked by the NABU task group," the airline said.

UIA believes that these actions constitute deliberate pressure on business. They aim at frightening UIA employees. The unlawful interference in the operation of the airline is the continuation of a string of measures aimed at forcing UIA to abandon its position and pay aviation fees today disputed in court.

UIA is the largest Ukrainian airline. Its hub airport is Boryspil (Kyiv). The UIA fleet consists of 36 aircraft, including 32 medium-haul and four long-haul airplanes.
