Vira Savchenko safe with Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don

Sister of Ukrainian MP and pilot Nadia Savchenko now is at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don, she managed to get her passport back, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the Council of Europe Dmytro Kuleba had said.

"A good piece of news: Vira Savchenko is taking a rest in security on the territory of our Consulate General in Rostov-on-Don. She has got her passport with her. Consul managed to take it from Russians. The second portion of news: Vira was really put on a federal wanted list for insulting of judge in Chechnya [when Ukrainians Karpiuk and Klykh were under trials], that's why we can in next few days bring her back to Ukraine (that's good), or to accept our Assange [WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange] on the territory of our diplomatic office (that's bad piece of news)," Kuleba wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

He also described how did Ukrainian consuls Vitaliy Moskalenko and Volodymyr Trehub, along with director of consular department Andriy Sybiha took Vira from the Russians. "Moskalenko in the middle of the night went to Rostov-on-Don and after a three-hour journey and a sharp discussion with Russians took Vira, her passport and brought her to a safe territory," Kuleba said.

He said diplomatic automobile plates and presence of consul saved Vira since Russian didn't dare to break a diplomatic immunity.

Besides, Kuleba said Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin knew about the situation and were involved in its settlement.

"Now the most crucial step is to taking Vira out of Russia," he said.

As Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service said, Savchenko was seized her passport near the Russian checkpoint and the car she and Ukrainian consul was in was blocked.

All in all, she together with the Ukrainian consuls managed to leave the checkpoint on the Russian side of Ukraine-Russia border.
