Crimean Tatars will permit repair of damaged power lines – Jemilev

National Crimean Tatar leader and the President's Commissioner for the Rights of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Jemilev has said that maintenance crews will be allowed to access damaged electric power lines in Kherson region.

"Of course, we'll do our best to allow the necessary services for them to carry out maintenance work for some facilities to prevent suffering in the territory of Crimea, as well [mainland] Ukrainian territory," he said during a government meeting in Kyiv on Monday.

However, Jemilev stressed that the agreement on supplying power to Russian-occupied Crimea must be scrapped.

"It is not right to supply electricity to occupied territory where the rights of our citizens are roughly violated," he stressed.

Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People Refat Chubarov asked Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk to make the situation in Crimea known to the international community by setting up a contact group.

"It is reasonable to address to our international partners by setting up a high level contact group, which would discus issues connected with Russia aggression against Ukraine, including the de-occupation of Crimea…I think that a setting up of such group at a high level, or as a sub-group as part of the Minsk group, would be in the interest of the Ukrainian state," he said.
