Ukraine's Sloviansk police report detention of militant informant

Officers of the Sloviansk police department and the Ukrainian Security Service have detained a local resident allegedly affiliated to the militants of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), the press service of the Sloviansk division of the Kramatorsk department of the Ukrainian national police's main department in Donetsk region has said in a report.

"Proceeding from the obtained information, the officers found and apprehended a local resident born in 1976, call name 'Grom'," the report said.

According to the police, the man volunteered to join the militants, was stationed at a roadblock near the Local History Museum and inspected vehicles and citizens in the period from May till July 2014.

The police said the man came to Sloviansk in late October allegedly to collect information about the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen and weapons and their movements.

The Sloviansk police department was issued a court warrant and searched the suspect's residence together with representatives of the Ukrainian Security Service, the report said.

"During the search of the domicile, the law enforcement officers found and seized a Kalashnikov rifle, an RGD-5 grenade, an F-1 grenade, two grenade fuses, 90 5.45mm rounds, and a map of the city of Sloviansk and the Sloviansk region indicating positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' servicemen," the report said.

A criminal case was opened on the counts of "forming a terrorist group or a terrorist organization," the report said. The man may be sentenced up to 15 years in prison.
