SSAU head: cooperation with Russian in space sector stopped at interstate level, hard to end intl cooperation

Ukraine will continue to fulfill its liabilities in cooperation with Russia in the space sector under international cooperation, while Ukraine-Russia cooperation at the interstate level has been suspended, Head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine (SSAU) Liubomyr Sabadosh has said.

"[Cooperation with Russia] is being stopped and we feel this. All projects at the interstate level have been suspended," Sabadosh said in an interview with journalists in Poland.

He said that while working with Russia, Ukraine had international liabilities.

"The example is cooperation in launching Soyuz rocket carriers with astronauts aboard," he said, adding that those projects which are being implemented under international cooperation are ongoing. This is the position of the president: everything that concerns the peaceful development of outer space and fulfillment of international liabilities Ukraine should implement, he said.

Sabadosh said that Russia has not withdrawn from international cooperation.

"There are difficult moments and we understand this… Of course, there are ambitions to say: we will stop everything. Try to divide the international space station… How to divide it? It is possible from the technological point of view, but this is expensive," he said.

"International cooperation in outer space exists and it is not easy to stop it," he said.
