Belarus always ready to help Ukraine to bring peace to Donbas – foreign chief Makei

Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei during a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said on his concerns over worsening of the situation in Donbas, violation of the Minsk deals and stressed that the Belarusian side ready to help Ukraine to peacefully settle the situation in Donbas, a president's press service said.

Makei said that Ukraine had nothing to fear from Belarus. "Ukraine is our good neighbor, with which we have a long border extension. Believe us, we want for this border to be a border of peace and consent, but not a border of discord and hatred," the Belarusian diplomat said.

Besides, the interlocutors discussed key issues of Ukraine-Belarus relations. In particular, they approved stirring up of the activities of Belarusian-Ukrainian Mixed Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, whose meeting took place in Chernihiv on July 24, 2015.

Poroshenko and Makei expressed interest in a further development of ties in energy, agro-industry, machine-building industry and aviation sectors, drawing a special attention to deepening of cooperation in transport-logistics spheres.

Belarusian foreign minister said about interest of his country is the use of marine ports of Ukraine.

Moreover, Makei and Poroshenko exchanged their views on the prospects of both states' development in the context of cooperation with the European Union, as well as engagement of two states in the regional integration processes, also in the Eastern Partnership initiative.
