The death toll of a traffic accident involving a Ukrainian bus on the Dolyna-Ivano-Frankivsk-Warsaw road, which occurred on Thursday morning near the village of Gorznie, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland, has reached five, 22 people are currently being treated in hospital, and 22 passengers received medical assistance at the accident site.
Three of the passengers died at the scene of the accident and another two died in hospital, the press service of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.
It said that the Polish prosecutor agencies will draw up a final report on the cause of the accident.
The Ukrainian consul in Warsaw Svitlana Krysa confirmed that five were killed in the accident, including the driver of the bus.
"There are five people killed, as it was reported earlier. One person was identified, this is the bus driver. Names of the rest of the passengers will be announced later on since investigative actions on the crash site continue and unfortunately [there are] no more details so far," she said on 112 TV Channel on Thursday.
Krysa reported that the passengers had travelled from Ukraine to Poland in search of work, most were looking for employment in Warsaw, although five intended to work in other cities in Poland.
She said that the 22 passengers who suffered minor injuries will be sent to Warsaw and they will then reach their final destination.
The families of deceased will be informed after their relatives are identified, she said.
The cause of the accident has so far not been confirmed.
"Under preliminary data, the driver drove into a tree near the road. The cause is unknown: probably he fell asleep or had a heart attack," the consul said.
However, the website of the Ukrainian embassy in Republic of Poland said that the "driver's fatigue caused the bus to crash."
