National TV Council refuses to reissue license to Channel 112

The National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine has once again refused to reissue a license to legal entities and broadcasters under the “Channel 112” logo as a result to the change of the program concept.

The regulator made the decision at a meeting on June 11.

According to National Council member Hryhoriy Shverk, the companies, broadcasting under the logo "112," received licenses as regional broadcasters, while the new concept foresees them working as national broadcasters.

Regulator head Yuriy Artemenko noted that the National Council, when making this decision, was guided by numerous appeals from regional broadcasters, "which could have broadcast on these frequencies," as well as the position of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech.

TV Channel 112 said on its website reported that the regulator's position is pressure on the editorial policy.

"The legal service of the channel said the council's attitude is preconceived and the reason for refusing the channel to issue the license is contrived," reads the report.
