MP Melnychuk denies involvement in kidnapping of ex-director of Ukrspyrt

First commander of Aidar battalion MP Serhiy Melnychuk (who recently defected from Oleh Liashko's Radical Party to People's Will) has denied being involved in the organization of the kidnapping of former director of Ukrspyrt state enterprise Mykhailo Labutin, and added that Labutin was in fact not kidnapped at all.

"I, a member of the Ukrainian parliament and the first commander of Aidar battalion, Serhiy Melnychuk, officially say that I'm not involved in the organization of the alleged kidnapping of Ukrspyrt director Labutin. I deny the fact of the "kidnapping" of Labutin, as Labutin recently gave a public conference where he denied the rumors that he was kidnapped," Melnychuk said in a statement published on his Facebook page.

He said that the criminal proceeding against him is fabricated, as are the other cases against Aidar soldiers who have been detained.

"I believe that this criminal proceeding is absolutely fabricated and ordered by those who have benefit from this, as well as the detention of Aidar soldiers, heroes of Ukraine, patriots. This is a part of the discrediting campaign of the Aidar volunteer battalion and me as the first commander in particular. It's impossible to open a case on kidnapping when the kidnapped person denies this fact in public!" he said.

Melnychuk also said that Labutin recently explained his disappearance at a press conference, saying that it was due to corrupt officials in Ukrspryt.
