Donetsk airport tower collapses amid shelling

The air traffic control tower of the Donetsk airport has collapsed, Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff spokesman Vladyslav Selezniov told Interfax on Tuesday.

"Yesterday the separatists were shelling the tower. Today the tower collapsed from the top floor down to the fourth floor," he said.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries, Selezniov said.

According to the press center of the Ukrainian army operation in the east, tensions have sharply escalated near the Donetsk airport in the past few days. The press center accused the "separatists" of regularly shelling the Ukrainian army's positions on the premises of the airport using small arms, mortars and artillery systems.

Army operation spokesman Andriy Lysenko has said that in recent days, militia forces have resumed attempts to raid the Donetsk airport.

Rotation of Ukrainian servicemen at the Donetsk airport continues, he said at a press briefing in Kyiv

"In the past 24 hours, one Ukrainian soldier has been killed and another ten have been injured" in the army operation area in the east, Lysenko said.
