Duma deputies regret that foreigners appointed Ukrainian Cabinet ministers

The appointment of foreigners to some of the key positions in the Ukrainian government might make Ukrainian citizens mistrust their President Petro Poroshenko, says Leonid Slutsky, the head of the Russian State Duma committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and ties with fellow-countrymen.

"It's too bad that President Poroshenko doesn't see people in his own country to fill the leading positions," Slutsky told Interfax on Tuesday.

Poroshenko had announced through his official Twitter account earlier on Tuesday that he had signed a decree on granting Ukrainian citizenship to Natalie Jaresko, Alexander Kvitashvili, and Aivaras Abromavicius.

Slutsky suggested that such decisions "are made essentially by instructions from the West."

Duma security and anti-corruption committee head Irina Yarovaya said that, by appointing foreigners to ministerial positions, Kyiv has in fact introduced external governance.

"In fact Kyiv is introducing elements of open external governance of Ukraine," Yarovaya told journalists on Tuesday.

It was reported earlier that the Petro Poroshenko Bloc had nominated Georgian citizen Alexander Kvitashvili as a candidate for health minister, Lithuanian citizen Aivaras Abromavicius for economic development minister, and U.S. citizen Natalie Jaresko for finance minister. All the three nominations were endorsed by the Verkhovna Rada later in the day.
