The press service of Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has announced that Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers hoisted a Ukrainian flag above the city administration building in the city of Lysychansk, Luhansk region.

"President of Ukraine Poroshenko was informed of this event by General Staff Chief Lt. Gen. Viktor Muzhenko. The head of state expressed conviction that the Armed Forces will accomplish their task with honor, will liberate the city of Lysychansk from the terrorists and will restore peace and quiet there," the press service said.

The Ukrainian flag was hoisted over the city at 2220 on Thursday, the anti-terrorist operation's press center said on its Facebook account, confirming that the operation would continue in Lysychansk.

"Units of the Interior Ministry and the National Guard of Ukraine will purge the city of the remnants of the defeated enemy and small gangs that may still be hiding in the city,' it said.
