Party of Regions suggests creation of negotiator group on situation in eastern Ukraine

Oleksandr Yefremov, head of the parliamentary faction of the Ukrainian Party of Regions, has called on the Ukrainian administration to create a group of negotiators for settling the situation in eastern Ukraine.

"There is a need to create a group that will act as a negotiator and get to the bottom of what these people want and eventually make a decision on the normalization of the situation, Yefremov told reporters in Kyiv on Monday.

If the authorities decide to include a representative of the Party of Regions in this group, "although they [the Ukrainian administration] have not done so until this day, we will work on this issue," he said. "However, we currently do not have such proposals and all our attempts to communicate to the authorities the tension that exists in eastern Ukraine have now failed," he said.

Yefremov said that "every address made from the eastern part [of Ukraine] is followed by a sharp response from the center." "Society is very radicalized and it's wrong to believe that it's a provocation," he said.

Yefemov flatly denied the accusations made against him by people who accuse him of involvement in the destabilization of the situation, specifically, in Luhansk.
