Rada starts considering creation of commission on constitutional amendments

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has started considering the creation of an ad hoc commission on the introduction of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.

Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Rybak proposed creating a temporary ad hoc commission on the drafting of a bill on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.

"The negotiations that we have held for several days in the office of the Verkhovna Rada chairman have not produced any results," he said.

Therefore, the speaker proposed creating a temporary commission that, he said, should include representatives of all parliamentary factions, constitutional law experts, and a representative of the Ukrainian president.

Rybak noted that the commission should soon prepare the respective amendments.

He also said that no bill on constitutional reform had currently been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.

Party of Regions MP Valeriy Pysarenko said it had been proposed that Batkivschyna MP Ruslan Kniazevych head the commission.
