Lviv Regional Council may consider a draft production sharing agreement (PSA) with Chevron on Thursday, October 3, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Chornobyl Aftermath Mitigation Iryna Sekh (Svoboda parliamentary faction) has told an Interfax-Ukraine reporter.

"Tomorrow they decide whether the issue should be put on agenda, as there are serious violations. There is an initiative by deputy Mykhailo Dziudz, but the draft instruction was not posted on the regional council's Web site a month ago and the commissions did not consider it," she said.

According to Sekh, despite the fact that the draft agreement has been amended, the regional council cannot approve it in its current wording, as it contradicts Ukraine's interests.

"The current wording of the agreement cannot be approved, as it contradicts Ukraine's interests as well as the interests of the residents of three regions. It is a corrupt project of the Family. We realize that investors are interested, profits and interests of their countries are important to them, but, unfortunately, Ukraine's interests are not taken into account in this agreement," Sekh said.

Meanwhile, Doctor of Geology from the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of Combustible Minerals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yaroslav Lazaruk said during public hearings on the production of shale gas said that from 120 to 150 billion cubic meters of shale gas could be extracted on the Oleske deposit.

Lazaruk told Interfax-Ukraine that such a forecast was based on long-standing studies.
