Lutsenko meets with European Parliament's representatives in prison
Former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox, former President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski, and an advisor to the European Parliament's president, Arnoldas Pranckevicius, visited Mena penal colony in Chernihiv region, where they met with former interior minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko.
The European Parliament's representatives spend an hour-and-a-half with Lutsenko in a room for short-term visits, the press service of the Penitentiary Service of Ukraine reported on Monday.
"After the meeting, the representatives of the European Parliament thanked the management of the institution for the opportunity to talk with Lutsenko. The visitors haven't made any claims, complaints or comments as regards the prison authorities," the press service said.
Cox and Kwasniewski started monitoring the court proceedings involving former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on June 11, 2012 under an agreement between Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.
Their mandate was subsequently expanded to include the court proceedings involving Lutsenko and former Acting Defense Minister Valeriy Ivaschenko. Their work was suspended when parliamentary elections began in Ukraine and was then restarted.
