Engineer detachment to join Ukraine's national contingent in Kosovo

A special train with military personnel and equipment of the engineer detachment that will join Ukraine's national contingent has departed for Kosovo on December 18.

According to the press service of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, the engineer detachment includes 28 servicemen and 13 units of special military equipment. A mine detection dog, Lais, departed for Kosovo together with bomb technicians.

"The key task of Ukrainian military engineers will include security of Kosovo Force detachments' movement, combat engineer reconnaissance in areas, detection and defusing explosive hazards and improvised explosive devices, improvement of engineering equipment at the base camp and centers, and equipment of helicopter pads," reads the statement.

The personnel of the engineer detachment took special training in Ukraine before joining the national contingent in Kosovo. In particular, bomb technicians underwent additional training at the mine center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Khmelnytsky, and drivers trained at the mountain motordrome in Zakarpattia region.

The majority of servicemen of the engineer detachment have experience of work in missions and peacekeeping operations.
