Yanukovych orders PGO to investigate accident of Kyiv-Sevastopol passenger train

The Prosecutor General's Office must take all possible measures to investigate the circumstances of an accident involving Kyiv-Sevastopol train No. 27 that occurred in Zaporizhia, an order of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych reads.

As the president's press service reported on Thursday, the president ordered Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka to take the corresponding response measures according to the law.

The prosecutor general must by November 7 report to the president on the results of the investigation into circumstances of the accident, and take the appropriate measures.

Moreover, Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov was charged with the implementation of a range of measures to check the state of rolling stock, track and other railway facilities of general use, and also resolve problems uncovered by the inspection. The premier must report on the work he has done by December 1, 2012.

As reported, early on Thursday near the railway station Zaporizhia-1 three cars of passenger train No. 27 from Kyiv to Sevastopol derailed. One of the wagons fell onto its side. There were 34 passengers in the wagon, of whom 12 were children. There were no injuries.

The prosecutor's office of Zaporizhia region opened a criminal case under Article 276 part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic rules and exploitation of railway, water or air transport).
