UDAR party against government's decision to transfer Boryspil airport to concession, says Klitschko

The resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on including Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv) on the list of objects to be transferred to concession will affect the company and its employees, Leader of the UDAR Party Vitali Klitschko has said.

The party is against the government's plans to transfer the airport to concession, as this could be the first step towards the privatization of a strategic state object, as well as lead to the mass dismissal of its employees, the party's press service said.

"This decision of the government is dictated, first of all, by the inability of the Infrastructure Ministry and the management of Boryspil airport to independently manage the company's activities and ensure its further development. If the government's plans materialize, revenues to budgets of all levels will be reduced, and the employment situation in Boryspil will worsen, as a significant number of local people work at the enterprise. But the most interesting thing is that the transfer of the airport to concession is the most profitable deal for the concessionaire himself, as all of the necessary infrastructure is created there using state funds, which will provide high revenues to the new owners. It is a big question where the interest of the state is here," he said.

Klitschko said UDAR would make every effort to cancel the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on including Boryspil airport in the list of state-owned objects to be transferred to concession.
