Lucescu: 'We can outplay top teams'

Shakhtar Donetsk manager Mircea Lucescu has said he believes his team is ready to outplay top clubs in Europe.

"We have already reached this level. We are in the position to outplay such outfits," the club's press service quoted him as saying at a pre-match press conference in Donetsk on Monday.

Lucescu noted that he did not care about the spectacular component of the game, because the team's main goal was to get three points.

He described Chelsea as a team that does not start the game very quickly, but then demonstrates mobile, high-speed football.

"Juventus' game is completely different. In Turin they gathered the team in which the players complement one another. The team tries to use the weaknesses of their opponents, building their game around that… At the moment, Chelsea is a more attacking side than Juventus. The Italians build their game around blistering attacking and counterattacking moves. The Londoners are no longer the team that won last season's Champions League. At that time, their game wasn't very spectacular, and they played more defensively, waiting for some corners and miracles from Drogba. Now their lineup is totally different, being more adapted to playing fluid football, and their mentality also changed. That's why we anticipate meeting an attacking Chelsea," he said.

As reported, on October 2 in Italy, Shakhtar played out a 1-1 draw with Juventus in their second Champions League group match. After two rounds, Chelsea and Shakhtar have four points each and hold the lead in Group E. Juventus has 2 points, and Nordsjælland - 0.
