Ukrainian MFA: Russia, Iran bear main responsibility for degradation of situation in Syria
The suffering and problems of the citizens of Syria are the result of the rule of the criminal regime of Bashar al-Assad, who turned the territory of his country into a testing ground for other criminal regimes – Russian and Iranian, as well as their proxy forces, in particular the Hezbollah group, according to a commentary by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry (MFA) on the new stage of the war in Syria.
"Ukraine and Ukrainians know better than anyone else that these regimes bring only death, suffering and destruction... It is Moscow and Tehran that bear the main responsibility for the degradation of the security situation in Syria," the MFA said in the commentary published on its website on Monday evening.
The Foreign Ministry said that Vladimir Putin and his allies in Iran are still making every effort not to lose control over the puppet Syrian regime, "which most Syrians associate with inhuman cruelty, tyranny and crimes."
"The Syrian people, with their rich religious and ethno-confessional diversity, deserve a dignified life in a free, modern, democratic country where there is no place for political repression and tyranny, terrorism, religious extremism and fundamentalism, where the rule of law and respect for human rights prevail... We are convinced that the path to a stable, free and democratic Syria lies through the implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council resolutions 2254 and 2118, as well as a nationwide inclusive dialogue," the statement reads.
The Foreign Ministry also noted the importance of preserving the unity and integrity of Syria as a state and guarantees of peace, stability and a chance for an early end to the long-term armed confrontation.
