Estonia to send new package of military aid to Ukraine

The Estonian government will send a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the country reports.

"The Cabinet of Ministers supported the proposal of Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur to provide Ukraine with another package of military assistance, this time including equipment and ammunition," the defense ministry said.

"It will soon be 1,000 days since Ukraine was able to defend its freedom against an irresistible aggressor. Ukraine will continue to need the help of Estonia and the free world to protect itself. This aid package was collected from the reserves of our Defense Forces, taking into account the needs of Ukraine, but in such a way that Estonia's defense capability is not affected," Pevkur said.

The new aid package includes naval ships, surveillance equipment, scopes, ballistic missiles and various types of ammunition.

"This aid package will not be the last, and soon we will open an annual measure of support for Estonian enterprises on a competitive basis, which will allow Ukraine to receive assistance from the Estonian defense industry. This will support not only Ukraine, but also the economy and security of Estonia itself," Pevkur added.

Estonia has provided Ukraine with more than EUR 500 million of military aid, or 1.4% of gross domestic product (GDP), which puts Estonia among the world leaders in terms of aid-to-GDP ratio as a percentage of the population.

Earlier, Estonia transferred, for example, Javelin anti-tank missiles, howitzers, artillery ammunition, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, mine detectors, vehicles, communications equipment, field hospitals (including in cooperation with Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Iceland), medical supplies, personal protective equipment (helmets, etc.) and dry food packages.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Estonia has also organized training in Estonia and abroad for more than 1,500 servicemen of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

In addition, in 2023, an IT coalition was created under the leadership of Estonia and Luxembourg to support the creation of a secure ICT infrastructure for the Ukrainian armed forces that meets NATO standards, the Estonian Defense Ministry said.
