The prosecutor's office is continuing an internal investigation into the legality of prosecutors acquiring the status of a person with a disability and calculating pension payments to prosecutors, the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reports on its Telegram channel.

"Five heads of regional prosecutor's offices and the head of one of the specialized prosecutor's offices for defense have written resignation letters. These are the heads of the Zaporizhia, Rivne, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Cherkasy regional prosecutor's offices and the specialized prosecutor's office for defense of the Southern Region. All of them received increased pensions for length of service, appointed by a court decision," said Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

He pointed out that on Friday, October 25, the first meeting of the independent Commission for the selection of candidates for inclusion in the personnel reserve for executive positions in regional and district prosecutor's offices was held at the Prosecutor General's Office.

"I initiated the creation of this commission to increase the transparency of the appointment process to such positions. This is one of the first elements of the comprehensive HR reform of the prosecutor's office, which began in July of this year. The commission evaluates the professional qualities and reputation of candidates," Kostin emphasized.

In addition, the Council of Prosecutors supported amendments to the Law of Ukraine on the Prosecutor's Office, which are designed to make it impossible for prosecutors to receive pensions at the same time as their salaries.

"According to these proposals, the payment of a pension for length of service to prosecutors will be made only after their dismissal from work. That is, according to the principle: either salary or pension. The relevant developments will be transferred to the subject of the legislative initiative," Kostin emphasized.
