Many EU countries support Kursk operation as part of Ukraine's right to defense under UN Charter – Borrell

Many EU member states have expressed support for the Kursk operation of Ukrainian forces as part of Ukraine's inalienable right to self-defense in line with the UN Charter, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Thursday.

Ukraine's counter-offensive operation in Russia's Kursk region has dealt a blow to Putin's narrative, he said, adding that Ukraine has demonstrated strategic courage and made Putin's narrative of a "special operation" completely futile. Many member states have expressed support for the Kursk operation as part of Ukraine's inalienable right to self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter, Borrell said at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels.

He also recalled the words of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who said that the Kursk operation had destroyed the myth of Russia's invincibility.

The EU High Representative pointed out that August was a very difficult month, and this summer has been very difficult and bloody. The diplomat also predicted that Russian bombing will continue because Russia wants to plunge the whole of Ukraine into darkness and cold.

According to him, at the meeting, the ministers received a lot of information about what is happening on the battlefield in Ukraine, and how the offensive on Kursk is changing the game on the front line in Donbas. At the same time, Borrell emphasized that air defense remains critical for Ukraine.
