Zelenskyy: Border guard forces, fortifications reinforced in regions bordering Russia, Belarus
The border guard forces and fortifications have been strengthened in all regions of Ukraine bordering Russia and Belarus, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said, adding that this process will continue.
"As for security, the situation is absolutely clear to us: attempts to intimidate [the population of] Volyn region and this direction by Russia may continue, but I want to tell you that [our] fortifications are serious," he said during a meeting with entrepreneurs in Volyn region on Tuesday.
According to the head of state, the contingent of Belarusian troops in the Volyn direction is up to 5,000 people.
"I cannot tell you all details, but the defense here – on your side – is very strong in terms of both personnel and defensive lines. Also, we have made a relevant decision to increase [the number of] border guards, but we should not disclose the details," he said.
"All regions that have common borders with the enemy, Russia, as well as those bordering Belarus should know that the number of border guards has been increased. And we will continue to strengthen ourselves," Zelenskyy said.
He also called on residents of the region to trust primarily the official sources of information.
