UNHCR to allocate $100 mln to prepare Ukraine for winter – Zelenskyy's meeting with Grandi
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced a new aid package in the amount of $100 million to prepare Ukraine for winter, the press service of the President of Ukraine said.
As noted in the press release, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.
The head of state thanked the High Commissioner for his support for Ukraine.
"We appreciate today's announcement of a new UNHCR assistance package of $100 million to prepare Ukraine for winter. In conditions of constant shelling of energy facilities, this is critical assistance," Zelenskyy said.
The president said Ukraine needs additional support to restore destroyed housing and arrange shelters in schools and hospitals so that Ukrainians can return home.
Grandi said this is his fifth visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The UN High Commissioner said during such visits he aims to show donors what is really happening in Ukraine so that they continue to allocate funds to help Ukrainians. He said he had already visited some areas in Kyiv that were bombed last week and the Okhmatdyt children's hospital.
Zelenskyy and Grandi noted the launch of a new information portal, Ukraine is Home, which, with the support of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, will provide the necessary information to Ukrainians planning to return home.
