Shmyhal on outcomes of his visit to Tokyo: Japan should become one of leaders in Ukraine's economic recovery

Japanese business is interested in participating in the restoration of Ukraine, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

"Japan should become one of the leaders in the economic recovery of our country. We saw great interest on the part of Japanese business in the deployment of new projects," Shmyhal wrote on the Telegram channel following his visit to Japan.

The Prime Minister thanked the Japanese government, business and everyone who was involved in the dialogue.

"We know that Japan is always there, that the Japanese people believe in our victory and are helping to bring it closer," he concluded.

As reported, Ukraine and Japan, during a conference on economic development and recovery in Tokyo, signed 56 documents on deepening partnership and attracting EUR 1.25 billion from Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI), $150 million from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and about $20 million from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which will be used to rebuild Ukraine.

Ukraine and Japan signed an agreement to provide Ukraine with a grant in the amount of $100 million for Phase 3 of the Rapid Recovery Program.

The Naftogaz Group signed memorandums with the Japanese Sumitomo Corporation and Komaihaltec on the modernization of combined heat and power plants and the development of a joint project in the field of wind energy.

PrJSC Export Credit Agency (ECA) of Ukraine and the state export credit agency of Japan Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) entered into a memorandum of understanding and development of cooperation.

Ukraine and Japan agreed to open negotiations on updating the agreement on the promotion and protection of investments.
