Ukrainian Sea Port Authority to change tariff policy towards Danube ports

The state-run enterprise Ukrainian Sea Port Authority has determined the opportunities for developing ports of the Danube region.

The press service of the enterprise has reported that Ukrainian Sea Port Authority Head Raivis Veckagans gave the information during his visit to Izmail, Ust-Dunaisk ports and the Reni special economic zone.

"The Sea Port Authority has 13 branches at seaports. I plan a strategy for each of them. We apply a differentiated approach. The increase of effectiveness of operations and competitiveness is the main principle used. We would apply a specific approach to calculation of port dues for the Danube region. We will draw up another tariff policy that would be interesting both to business and the state," he said.

After studying the operations of the Reni economic zone, he said that practice of special economic zones is widely applied all over the world and brings good results in the implementation of investment projects and solving complicated issues related to property, land and other state-owned assets management. Ukraine also has a positive experience of applying this approach.

"We should analyze it in details and study the expediency of its use in other regions," he said.

He said that the problem of absence of ice-class tugs is acute in the Danube region.
