Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has every company engaged in pig breeding and processing in the country to be checked after the recent outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).

Deputy Head of the State Veterinary and Biosecurity Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Verzhikhovsky said at a briefing that the government supported the idea of redistributing budget expenditures foreseen for the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food for 2015. Around UAH 44.7 million will be spent on measures to prevent and eliminate ASF.

In addition, Verzhikhovsky said that meetings with the representatives of the EBRD, and FAO experts, are planned to be held regarding the provision of assistance in carrying out measures on ASF prevention and liquidation.

He also reported on the urgent need for disinfectants, special equipment, reagents, and protection agents.

Verzhikhovsky said that criminal proceedings under Article 251 "Violation of veterinary regulations" have been registered in the unified register of criminal cases.

"Sanctions under this article are quite serious," he said.

According to him, after the detection of ASF virus at Kalita agricultural complex, potentially infected animals were still transported to different regions in Ukraine.

"Now we know almost all of these places," he said.
