Vehicle imports to Ukraine plunges by 60% in 2014
Imports of new and used vehicles to Ukraine in 2014 came to 146,500 and their customs cost exceeded $1.6 billion, the Ukrautoprom association reported on Thursday.
Thus, the number of vehicles more than halved compared to 2013, and in money terms imports of vehicles fell by 60%.
The association said that total imports of goods in 2014 declined by 28%.
Passenger cars share of total vehicle imports was 43% or 62,600 cars, which was 64% down from a year ago, and in money terms imports decreased by 64%, to $1.2 billion.
The share of used cars was only 7% of total imports of passenger cars.
The largest number of passenger cars was imported to Ukraine from Japan – 11,751 cars or 19% of annual imports worth $301 million, Germany is second with 6,165 cars worth $188 million. South Korea is third with 5,507 cars worth $18.2 million.
The top five leaders in supplies of passenger cars also includes the United States and Russia with 4,184 cars and 4,072 cars respectively.
The share of commercial vehicles of total vehicle imports last year was 56% or 82,700 vehicles worth $419 million. Imports of commercial vehicles fell by 34% or 43,000, and Germany, France and Italy's share of total commercial vehicle imports was 80%.
A total of 38,130 commercial vehicles worth $165.1 million was imported from Germany, 23,082 vehicles worth $76.3 million from France and 6,392 vehicles worth $23.7 million from Italy.
The share of new vehicles of total commercial vehicle imports was only 4%.
According to the report, the share of buses of total vehicle imports was 1%, and 86% of imported buses were used.
A total of 1,200 buses worth $14.5 million was imported to Ukraine last year, which was 59% down in kind and 68% down in money terms.
The share of Germany was 60% with 707 buses worth $6.3 million, Russia is second with 134 buses worth $2.2 million and Poland is third with 54 buses worth $660,000.
