U.S. does not rule out sanctions against Kyiv - State Department

1 min read

U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki has said she does not rule out that the United States could impose sanctions against Kyiv.

"All policy options, including sanctions, are on the table in our view. But obviously, that still is being evaluated," she said at a briefing on Wednesday.

While commenting on U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland's visit to Kyiv, Psaki said that "she made it clear that what happened last night [in the early hours of Wednesday] is absolutely impermissible in a European democratic state."

"She [Nuland] also made clear that we believe there is still a way forward for Ukraine, that it is still possible to save Ukraine's European future, and want to see President [Viktor] Yanukovych lead his country back onto that path," she said.

Psaki said that Nuland had met with "opposition leaders and officials last week on her first visit as well, and it is important to convey our support for their ability to voice their views, support for their efforts on European integration."
