Zelenskyy on Ukrainian army entering 1991 borders: We don't want Putin to be on our territory, otherwise it will be frozen conflict
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the presence of Russian troops on Ukrainian territories will create a situation of frozen conflict and the risks of a second invasion, so Ukraine needs Putin's military defeat.
"When we speak about territories, you have to know, first of all, of course, we need to save people, the nation. And we are not members of NATO, we do not have such an umbrella. We need Putin to lose. We do not want him to be on our territory, because anyway, this is a frozen conflict. And it will depend on years when he prepares and comes back again with an invasion, and he will do it," he said during a conversation with American journalist Bret Baier at the Reagan Institute in Washington.
This is how the president answered the question whether Kyiv still faces the goal of regaining control over the territories within the 1991 borders.
Speaking about what solutions he sees to end the war, Zelenskyy said: "The best way, of course, after the first peace summit, is to organize and prepare a plan, and prepare a second summit over the next months. So that the world puts pressure on Putin to stop the war. This is the best way."
