President of Ukraine, his wife honor memory of heroes of Heavenly Hundred
On the Day of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with First Lady Olena Zelenska, honored the memory of activists who died during the Revolution of Dignity in 2014, the press service of the head of state reports.
“Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Olena Zelenska placed icon lamps near the memorial cross at the site of the activists' deaths on the Heavenly Hundred Heroes Alley in the center of Kyiv,” the message reads.
The President noted that Ukrainians stood up 10 years ago and will stand up now.
"Ten years ago, they tried to kill Ukrainians in their own country, in their own capital, just for the peaceful choice to be themselves and be free. For ten years, attempts to destroy us and our independence have been going on. There were bullets against the unarmed Heavenly Hundred. Now it's missiles, drones and armies. But ten years ago we resisted and continue to stand. Hundreds and hundreds are heavenly and living defenders of our right to be! Thank you for everything! And we will stand together," Zelenskyy wrote on the Telegram channel.
A commemorative cross on the Alley of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred was installed by the public in March 2014 at the site of the executions of participants in the Revolution of Dignity. In the future, it should become part of the National Memorial Complex of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred – the Museum of the Revolution of Dignity.
Representatives of diplomatic institutions also took part in the memorial ceremony.
