Specific fund for Ukraine's military needs to be endorsed in upcoming time -Stano

The specific fund within the European Peace Facility (EPF) to satisfy Ukraine's military needs will be endorsed in upcoming time, Spokesperson for the EU Foreign Diplomatic Service Peter Stano has said.

"The European Union will continue supporting Ukraine not only for as long as it is needed, but also with whatever is needed. There is determination [for this]. And the [EUR] 50 billion fund for Ukraine was already agreed by member states and the specific Ukraine assistance fund within the EPF is also something that got endorsement from the European Council. And it now really remains to be worked out in details among the member states in the upcoming time which will hopefully not be a long time," he said at a midday briefing in Brussels on Monday.

Stano also noted the EU is "very much aware about the needs on the Ukrainian side when it comes to anything concerning military supplies to help Ukraine defend itself against the brutal ongoing Russian aggression."

"This was discussed several times last week. So, there were at least three occasions and three of them were discussed during the informal meeting of the defense ministers during the European Council by the European leaders, and then also on Saturday during the informal meeting of the foreign ministers. And I think the the conclusions from the European Council on Thursday are very clear when it comes to Europe's determination to continue helping Ukraine," he said.

As reported, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell came up with an initiative to create a EUR 5 billion fund for assistance to Ukraine within the framework of the EPF.
