Italian Senate approves decree on further weapons supplies to Ukraine

The Senate of the Italian Republic on Wednesday, January 24, gave the green light to a decree extending the authorization to transfer military assets to Ukraine until December 31, 2024, in line with Italy's international commitments in helping Kyiv fend off the Russian invasion, the Italian news agency ANSA has said.

The measure, which was approved with 113 ayes and 18 nays, and no abstentions, now passes to the Lower House, the Chamber of Deputies.

Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni has been staunch in her determination to help Ukraine. At the same time, the opposition 5-Star MOvement (M5S) is against sending further arms to Ukraine.
