Shmyhal, Jourová discuss development of mechanisms for confiscation of frozen Russian assets

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Vice-President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová have met to discuss the development of mechanisms for the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.

"Despite the full-scale war, Ukraine continues to implement reforms necessary for its integration into the European Union. In the near future, we are committed to complete the legislative steps determined in the European Commission's report within the framework of the Enlargement Package. A decision to open negotiations with Ukraine on its accession to the EU is crucial, particularly in the context of restoration of our country," he said on the Telegram channel following the meeting on Monday.

According to the prime minister, the aggressor's liability was discussed separately.

"We count on our further effective work, together with the EU, on the development of a mechanism for the confiscation of frozen Russian assets. The 'Russia will pay' principle should become a reality as soon as next year. I also pointed at the necessity to create a special tribunal to bring the Russian leadership to justice," Shmyhal said.
