The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) ruled to detain a businessman from Khmelnytsky, who is an accomplice of Ukrainian Member of Parliament Serhiy Labaziuk suspected of attempting to bribe Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, with an alternative of over UAH 12 million bail.

"On November 24, 2023, the investigative judge of the HACC, at the request of NABU [National Anti-Corruption Bureau] detectives, agreed by the SAPO [Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office] prosecutor, selected for the top manager of an enterprise, who, together with an MP, was exposed for providing undue benefits to senior officials in the field restoration, a preventive measure in the form of detention with an alternative of posting UAH 12.078 million bail," the SAPO said on the Telegram channel on Friday.

The term of detention is until January 21, 2024.

The suspect is also charged, in particular, with the obligation not to leave Khmelnytsky without the permission of the detective, prosecutor or court, hand over documents for leaving the country for safekeeping and wear an electronic means of control.

As reported, the SAPO and the NABU notified incumbent MP of the For the Future group Serhiy Labaziuk, who is a member of the parliamentary committee on agrarian and land policy, of suspicion. He tried to bribe senior restoration officials. According to the investigation, Labaziuk wanted to receive orders for the restoration of infrastructure facilities worth UAH 1 billion for his enterprise. To do this, he turned to Kubrakov in August and promised to give 3-5% of the cost from each contract. Subsequently, the suspects provided persons occupying a particularly responsible position with a portion of this unlawful benefit in the amount of $150,000.
