Norway, Sweden and Denmark announce joint initiative to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine

Norway is joining forces with Sweden and Denmark to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine, the shells will be delivered in 2024.

According to the website of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, the head of the department, Bjørn Arild Gram, noted the great need and use of artillery ammunition in Ukraine.

The department explained that several options were considered on how to ensure the supply of ammunition to Ukraine in the fastest and best way, and it was concluded that the most practical way would be to use the framework agreement that the Defense Logistics Organization (FLO) entered into with Nammo.

"The three countries together contribute about NOK 600 million, and Ukraine will receive ammunition in 2024," the defense minister said.

The Danish Ministry of Defense reported that the country will contribute DKK 150 million.

"If we want to continue to be able to support Ukraine and replenish the Ministry of Defense's own stockpiles, it is critical that we also strengthen our production and supply chains for critical ammunition in the North," Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said.

He noted that with this initiative the countries are also sending a clear signal of support for Ukraine in the long term.
