Ukrainian civil society hub opens in European Parliament

The European Parliament provided Ukraine with a location for the operation of the Ukrainian Civil Society Hub, which was opened on Thursday in Brussels.

According to an Interfax-Ukraine's own correspondent, the opening ceremony of the hub, which is located in the building of the European Parliament in the so-called "Station of Europe" on Luxembourg Square in Brussels, was attended by President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, Representative of Ukraine to the European Union, Ambassador Vsevolod Chentsov and Head of NGO Promote Ukraine Marta Barandiy.

"To support Ukrainian civil society, the European Parliament will make a whole floor available to the NGO Promote Ukraine in the Station Europe building in Brussels," the official press release of the European Parliament says.

"In these days of brutal attack, the European Parliament supports Ukraine, expresses its solidarity and commitment to stand next to the Ukrainian people in your resistance to the enemies who have seized your territory. We promise to do everything in our power to ensure that the EP is on the front line to help Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in any way we can. We have decided to open our home to Ukrainian civil society and we have decided to call it the Ukrainian Hub," Metsola said.

According to Marta Barandiy, the Ukrainian Civil Society Hub will serve as a communication platform for Ukrainian resistance and European support.

"We invite you here with your initiatives. We also plan to organize press conferences, conferences, round tables, exhibitions, and more, so that you can feel the spirit of our brave nation," she said.

After opening remarks, Metsola presented the Ukrainian side with symbolic keys tied with ribbons – symbols of Ukraine and the European Union. The participants also honoured those who had died in the war with a minute of silence.
