Klitschko urges city council deputies to postpone consideration of allocating land for Memorial in Babyn Yar

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko called on deputies of Kyiv City Council to postpone the issue of allocating land for the future Memorial in Babyn Yar and to hold first parliamentary meeting on the concept of the project, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration said on Tuesday.

"The subject of the Memorial in Babyn Yar received a great resonance and discussion in society. There is a lot of speculation around this. Therefore, I propose not to consider at today's meeting and postpone the issue of allocating land plots for arranging the entrance group of the future Memorial. And first hold separate parliamentary hearings where the Babyn Yar foundation will present the concept of the project and answer the questions of concern to the deputies of Kyiv City Council," Kyiv mayor said during his speech at Kyiv City Council.

He also said it is necessary to ensure that the implementation of this project takes place jointly and under the control of the government.

As reported, Kyiv activists started collecting signatures calling for an end to support for the Russian project for the memorialization of Babyn Yar.
