European Parliament calls for de-oligarchization of Ukraine

The European Parliament calls on the Ukrainian authorities to de-oligarchize the country.

This is discussed in the section "Trade and economic cooperation, labour and social affairs, mobility of workers" of the resolution on the implementation by Ukraine of the Association Agreement voted by the European Parliament during the plenary session. The spokesperson was deputy from the European People's Party Michael Gahler (Germany).

"The European Parliament notes that a number of reforms have been introduced, leading to the deregulation of the economy, greater transparency of public finances and an improvement in regulations, however, it notes that no visible effects have been achieved in the de-oligarchisation of the country, as oligarchs still have a strong impact on the Ukrainian economy and politics, in particular in media ownership and influence over the judiciary and the law enforcement system; considers that creating clear and equal-for-all rules in the economy and politics may prove to be an effective method of de facto downgrading the unofficial influence of a small group of the richest entrepreneurs on the functioning of the state, including legislation, and therefore calls on the Ukrainian authorities to speed up the process of de-oligarchisation," according to the document.
