Lukashenko says Putin pledged full help with providing Belarus' security

Russia will help Belarus at first request to ensure its security against external military threats, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said on Saturday.

"When it comes to the military component, we have an agreement with the Russian Federation, both in the framework of the Union State and the CSTO [Collective Security Treaty Organization]. Now is precisely the moment which falls under this agreement. Which is why today I had a long, substantive conversation with the president of Russia [to discuss] the situation. I must say I was even slightly surprised: he is absolutely in the know about what is happening," Lukashenko was quoted by the BelTA state news agency as saying.

"And the two of us agreed that full assistance will be provided at our first request to ensure the security of the Republic of Belarus," he said.
