Sytnyk says HACC may start working in March 2019

National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Director Artem Sytnyk believes that the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) may start working in March 2019.

"I hope it will take place, because the candidates will have to tell about something during the pre-election race. Now there are 340 candidates [for the positions of judges], who applied for the contest. Unfortunately, the composition of the Council of International Experts has not been approved yet. But the process is underway, and I do not rule out that the anti-corruption court could start working in March 2019," he said in an interview with the Holos Ukrainy newspaper published on Friday.

Sytnyk noted that there is not a single country in the world that would completely overcome corruption, but it is necessary to ensure that corruption "does not threaten state sovereignty." "And the resistance that begins is an indicator that we are on the right track. Of course, it is easier to check only one hundred declarations, as the NACP (the National Agency on Corruption Prevention) did. And no one criticizes, everyone is satisfied," he said.

The director of the NABU stressed that people involved in corruption cases often occupy positions in government bodies, they are in the parliamentary hall, have media and material resources. "And when this resource is directed against us, it means that we are really attacking those "places" that we need to attack, and we are investigating such cases that are worth investigating," Sytnyk said.
