Trump signs Pentagon budget, including $250 mln for Ukraine's defense

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed the Pentagon's budget for 2019, earlier approved by the Congress and the Senate, in which $250 million is issued to Ukraine within security assistance, the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States has said.

"President of the United States Donald Trump has signed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for 2019, previously approved by the Congress, which foresees $250 million to support Ukraine," the Ukrainian embassy said on its Facebook page.

The embassy noted the amount of assistance to Ukraine in the field of security and defense by the Pentagon was increased by $50 million compared to the budget of 2018.

"We highly appreciate the growing support of Ukraine by our key strategic partner, the United States of America, aimed at strengthening the defense capability of our state in countering Russian aggression," the embassy noted.

According to the document, $250 million, in particular, are issued for "conducting military exercises, providing military equipment, lethal weapons and logistics support, replacing previously provided weapons or military goods." The list of types of assistance also includes support for the armed and security forces of Ukraine.
