Kyiv files request to Washington on purchase of U.S. air defense systems

Ukraine has filed a request to the official Washington for the purchase of air defense systems worth $750 million for one unit, Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly said on the air of Novoye Vremia radio.

"In my opinion, sea space, military airspace is our needs of the next period. This is something without which we simply cannot ensure the defense of the country," the diplomat said.

He also said that Ukraine needed at least three such complexes, but did not specify which type of air defense he was talking about.

Chaly also expressed the opinion that the Ukrainian Armed Forces need complexes of UAVs, counter battery radars and counter-sniper systems.

The ambassador added that the relevant request was voiced at the "highest and high level", namely at the meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and the United States in Brussels, as well as at meetings of the Ukrainian side with the U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton.

Chaly refused to voice other details of this request, referring to the secrecy of information.
