Bolton sees Ukraine's progress in NATO integration issue

Advisor to the U.S. President for National Security John Bolton notes Ukraine's progress in matters of integration into NATO.

The Bush administration proposed in 2008 that the program for admission to NATO be accelerated for Ukraine and other countries, but unfortunately our European counterparts did not agree. But I think that now our administration [of President Donald Trump] is actively considering this issue based on Ukraine's interests. Several steps have been taken, but much depends on Ukraine - how Ukraine will fulfill the conditions, both political and military ones. But there is progress, he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

Bolton noted that the United States and Ukraine have close ties.

I think that NATO has demonstrated during its existence that it is a stabilizing defense force in Europe that does not allow aggression and joins peace and security of the North Atlantic region, the advisor to the U.S. president said.
